Call to Me

Jeremiah 33:3

Jeremiah 33:3 says: “Call to Me, and I will answer and show you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” The LORD spoke it to Jeremiah while he was confined in the courtyard of the guard, as Babylon’s army besieged Jerusalem.

Lord, You said, “Call to Me, and I will answer.” So I am calling. I do not know the way through this, and I cannot see what comes next. Show me great and unsearchable things I do not know, and teach me to listen for Your answer. Even when I feel shut in, You hear me. I trust You. Amen.

About this verse

Jeremiah 33 begins with the prophet shut in. While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him a second time. Outside, the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and houses in the city had been torn down for defense against the siege ramps. Into that moment the LORD, who made the earth and formed it, says: Call to Me, and I will answer and show you great and unsearchable things you do not know. What He goes on to show is a hope no one in the city could see: health and healing, sins forgiven, people brought back from captivity, and the sounds of joy and gladness heard again in streets that were deserted, the voices of the bride and bridegroom. The promise first came to a prophet in a hard place. It is a prayer for anyone who feels shut in and needs to call on God.
