Act Justly, Love Mercy, Walk Humbly

Micah 6:8

Micah 6:8 says: “He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” It is the prophet Micah’s answer to what God wants from His people.

Lord God, You have shown me what is good. I do not need to bring You something impressive. You ask me to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with You. Make me fair in how I treat people, at work and at home. Give me a heart that loves to show mercy. And keep me close beside You today, humble enough to follow where You lead. Amen.

  6. Pray for people who are treated unjustly.

About this verse

Micah prophesied in Judah in the days of the kings Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah. Chapter 6 is set like a courtroom. The LORD calls the mountains to hear His case against His people, and He reminds them what He has done: He brought them up from the land of Egypt, redeemed them from the house of slavery, and sent Moses, Aaron and Miriam before them. Then a worshipper asks: With what shall I come before the LORD? Burnt offerings? Thousands of rams, ten thousand rivers of oil, even a firstborn child? The answer is simpler and harder at once. He has shown you what is good: to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. God is not asking for a grand gift. He is asking for a life that treats others rightly, delights in mercy, and stays close to Him. It is a prayer for anyone who wants to know what God wants from them.
