John 19:30 records the last words Jesus spoke from the cross before He died: 'It is finished.' The Greek word, tetelestai, was used in everyday life to mark a debt as fully paid — it could be stamped on a receipt. Spoken by a man being executed, stripped and in agony, it reads on the surface like defeat. But John frames it as the opposite: the completion of the mission Jesus came to accomplish, not the collapse of it. Nothing was left undone, no further sacrifice required, no debt still owed. For readers who know the rest of the story, resurrection three days later, the words carry triumph inside apparent loss. This is a prayer for anyone still trying to earn, fix, or finish what has already been completed on their behalf.
