John 14 takes place in the upper room on the night before Jesus' crucifixion, during His final extended teaching to the disciples — a passage scholars call the Farewell Discourse. Jesus has just told them He is going away to prepare a place for them, and Thomas asks how they can possibly know the way if they don't know the destination. Jesus answers with one of His most direct self-declarations in all four Gospels: 'I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' In a room full of confused, grieving men about to lose their teacher, this is not abstract theology but a personal anchor — He himself is the path, not a set of directions to follow alone. This is a prayer for moments of confusion about which way to go, spiritually or practically.
