Comfort & Not Alone

He Sees You

Isaiah 49:16

Lord, when I feel forgotten — when no one calls and no one remembers — remind me that You see me. You have engraved my name on the palms of Your hands. From the prophet Isaiah, chapter forty-nine.

The Scripture

“Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me.”

— Isaiah 49:16

About this verse

Isaiah 49 speaks to Israelites in exile who felt abandoned by God, convinced their homeland and their God had forgotten them. The prophet answers with one of Scripture's most intimate images: even a nursing mother might forget her child, but God cannot forget His people, because He has engraved them on the palms of His hands — a permanent, deliberate mark, not a passing thought. Their broken walls, the ruins of home, stay continually before Him. It is a promise addressed to people who felt erased by circumstance and distance, insisting that being out of sight to others does not mean being out of God's sight. This is a prayer for the ache of feeling invisible or forgotten.
