Comfort & Not Alone

God Remembered Noah

Genesis 8:1

Genesis 8:1 says: “But God remembered Noah and all the animals and livestock that were with him in the ark. And God sent a wind over the earth, and the waters began to subside.” It is the turning point of the flood story.

God, You remembered Noah when there was nothing but water as far as he could see. You did not forget one creature in the ark. Remember me now, in the flood I am waiting through. Send Your wind over the waters in my life, and give me patience until I see dry ground again. Amen.

The Scripture

“But God remembered Noah and all the animals and livestock that were with him in the ark. And God sent a wind over the earth, and the waters began to subside.”

— Genesis 8:1

Prayer points from Genesis 8:1

  1. Thank God that He remembers you, even when you feel alone.
  2. Tell Him honestly how long you have been waiting.
  3. Ask Him to send His wind over the waters in your life.
  4. Pray for the people who are in the ark with you, your family and those you care for.
  5. Ask for patience to wait for His timing.
  6. Thank Him that He keeps every promise He makes.

About this verse

By this point in Genesis, the flood has covered the earth. The rain fell for forty days, and the waters prevailed upon the earth for a hundred and fifty days. Noah, his family, and the animals have been shut inside the ark the whole time, with no land in sight and no word about when it will end. Then Genesis 8 opens with one short sentence that changes the direction of the whole story: But God remembered Noah. In the Bible, God remembering does not mean He had forgotten. It means He acts on His promise. He had made a covenant with Noah before the flood, and now He keeps it. He remembers not only Noah but every animal in the ark. He sends a wind over the earth, and the waters begin to go down. It is a prayer for anyone who has been waiting a long time and wonders whether God still sees them.
