Comfort & Not Alone

Follow Me

Mark 2:13-14

Mark 2:14 says: “As He was walking along, He saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth. ‘Follow Me,’ He told him, and Levi got up and followed Him.” It is the moment Jesus calls Levi to be His disciple.

Lord Jesus, You saw Levi sitting at the tax booth, and You did not pass him by. You see me where I am today, too. When You say, “Follow Me,” help me get up and follow You, and leave behind whatever keeps me sitting still. Amen.

The Scripture

“Once again Jesus went out beside the sea. All the people came to Him, and He taught them there. As He was walking along, He saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth. “Follow Me,” He told him, and Levi got up and followed Him.”

— Mark 2:13-14

  3. Listen for His call: “Follow Me.”

  6. Pray for someone who has not yet heard Him call.

About this verse

Mark 2 begins in Capernaum, where Jesus forgives and heals a paralyzed man lowered through a roof. Right after that, Jesus goes out again beside the Sea of Galilee. The whole crowd comes to Him, and He teaches them. Then, as He walks along, He sees Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth. Jesus speaks only two words to him: “Follow Me.” And Levi gets up and follows Him. In the verses that follow, Jesus eats at Levi’s house with many tax collectors and sinners, and when some ask why, He says He came to call sinners, not the righteous. It is a prayer for anyone who wonders if Jesus would still call them, just as they are.
