Forgiveness & Grace

You denied Him three times. He made you breakfast anyway.

John 21:12

Jesus, I have denied You in my own ways, and I expected shame. Instead You set a place for me and asked me to come and eat. Thank You for restoring me with love, not blame. Amen.

The Scripture

“Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.””

— John 21:12

About this verse

John 21 happens after the resurrection, on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, where Peter had gone back to fishing after denying he even knew Jesus three times during the trial. Jesus meets the disciples at dawn with a charcoal fire already burning — the same detail (a charcoal fire) that marked the courtyard where Peter denied Him. Instead of a confrontation, Jesus says simply, 'Come and have breakfast.' There is no scolding before the meal; restoration comes first, through an ordinary act of feeding a friend who failed Him. Only after they eat does Jesus gently restore Peter, three times, undoing the three denials. This is a prayer for anyone convinced that their worst moment has disqualified them from love.
