I Have Prayed for You

Luke 22:31-32

Jesus said this to Simon Peter at the Last Supper, hours before Peter denied Him three times (Luke 22:31-34).

Lord, before my worst night You had already prayed for me — that my faith would not fail. Not if I return, but when. Hold me in that prayer tonight, and turn me home. Amen.

Thank Jesus that He prayed for you before your hardest hour arrived, not after it.
Ask that your faith will not fail in the test you are facing now, even on the days your courage does.
Name the place where you feel sifted right now, and ask Him to keep you through it.
Tell Him honestly where you have fallen, as Peter would have to, and ask to turn back quickly.
Ask Him to use what you have been through to strengthen someone else, as He told Peter to strengthen his brothers.
Pray by name for someone whose faith is wavering, trusting that Jesus intercedes for them too.

About this verse

At the Last Supper, Jesus tells Simon Peter that Satan has asked to 'sift' him like wheat, but that Jesus has already prayed for him — not that he would avoid failure, but that his faith would not fail completely, and that when he has turned back, he should strengthen the other disciples. Jesus says 'when,' not 'if,' fully aware Peter would deny him within hours. This is one of the most striking moments of foreknowledge and grace in the Gospels: Jesus interceding for someone before their worst failure, already planning for their restoration on the other side of it. Peter's later collapse and eventual return became central to the early church's understanding of grace after failure. This is a prayer for anyone bracing for or recovering from a moment they know they'll fall short.

When to pray this prayer

Before a moment you fear you might fail or let someone down
After denying your faith, values, or a promise under pressure
When shame over a past failure keeps you from coming back to God
Praying for someone you know is walking into temptation
During Holy Week, reflecting on Peter's denial and restoration
When you need to believe God's grace covers you before you even fall
