Philippians was written by Paul from prison, likely in Rome, to a church he loved deeply and trusted despite his own uncertain circumstances. In chapter 1, reflecting on their partnership in the gospel, he writes with confidence that 'he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ' — a promise not that the work is already finished, but that the One who started it is committed to seeing it through. Paul says this as a man who cannot control his own outcome, chained and awaiting trial, yet still trusting the process in others is safe in God's hands. This is a prayer for the end of a day with an unfinished to-do list, unresolved problems, or an unfinished version of yourself, when you need to hand it off rather than carry it into sleep.
