Comfort & Not Alone

You Never Walked Alone

Matthew 28:20

Lord, so many times I kept my eyes down, certain I was walking through it alone. Thank You that beside my every step there was another set of footprints — that You never once left my side. Help me lift my eyes and trust that You are with me always. Amen.

The Scripture

“I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

— Matthew 28:20

About this verse

This verse closes the Great Commission in Matthew 28, spoken by the risen Jesus on a mountain in Galilee to his eleven remaining disciples just before his ascension. He was sending ordinary men into a hostile, unfamiliar world, and his final promise wasn't a strategy or a guarantee of ease — it was his own ongoing presence: 'I am with you always, to the end of the age.' For men who had recently abandoned him in fear and were about to face real opposition, that assurance was the foundation everything else rested on. This prayer looks back over a hard season and recognizes, often only in hindsight, that what felt like walking alone was never actually solitary.
