John 10 records Jesus describing Himself as 'the good shepherd,' contrasting Himself with hired hands who abandon the flock at the first sign of danger because the sheep were never truly theirs. He says, 'I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and my own know me' — using a word for 'know' that in the original language implies deep, personal, relational knowledge, the same intimacy later used to describe His relationship with the Father. In first-century Judea, a shepherd typically knew each sheep individually, sometimes by name, having raised many of them from birth. Jesus is claiming that same total familiarity with each person who belongs to Him — including the parts they hide or perform over for everyone else. This is a prayer for wanting to be fully known, not just the polished version people usually see.
