I Know My Own

John 10:14

Jesus said this to a crowd in Jerusalem, including Pharisees, soon after He healed a man born blind (John 9:40-10:14).

Lord, You know the real me — the part I hide and the part I perform over. Thank You that You call that one by name and want him still. Shepherd me home. Amen.

About this verse

John 10 records Jesus describing Himself as 'the good shepherd,' contrasting Himself with hired hands who abandon the flock at the first sign of danger because the sheep were never truly theirs. He says, 'I am the good shepherd. I know My sheep and My sheep know Me' — using a word for 'know' that in the original language implies deep, personal, relational knowledge, the same intimacy later used to describe His relationship with the Father. In first-century Judea, a shepherd typically knew each sheep individually, sometimes by name, having raised many of them from birth. Jesus is claiming that same total familiarity with each person who belongs to Him — including the parts they hide or perform over for everyone else. This is a prayer for wanting to be fully known, not just the polished version people usually see.

When you feel like no one really knows the real you

After putting on a brave face for people all day and feeling exhausted by it

When you're hiding a struggle from everyone around you

Wanting to be honest with God about the parts of yourself you don't show others

When you feel anonymous, like one face in a crowd nobody would miss

Before opening up to someone about something you've kept hidden
